Comey Denies Trump’s Wiretapping Claim despite Evidence

FBI Director James Comey has appeared before the House Intelligence Committee where he testified that the FBI is in the middle of conducting a wide-ranging inquiry into Moscow’s efforts to influence the 2016 presidential election.

The inquiry began in late July he said, and he asserted, that the FBI has found no evidence supporting the President’s claim that Obama authorized any “wiretapping” of Trump Tower.

It’s a claim that has struck a sour note on the ears of officials and Americans in light of the fact that mainstream media (MSM) sources have been saying for months that much was being learned about the Trump Campaign via “wiretap” information.

On January 19, 2017, weeks before Donald Trump would make his wiretap claim over Twitter, the New York Times released an article regarding an “Inquiry Into Trump Associates,” which claims that information about Trump staff had been sleuthfully ascertained and used the word “wiretap” three times.

What’s more, there are three documents proving that on three different occasions, intelligence agencies asked the FISA court for a warrant to investigate Trump Tower. One of those appeals was made on the heft of evidence that could only be ascertained via electronic surveillance.

It was a communication history between a computer in Trump Tower with a Russian bank. When they looked into that communication, they found nothing untoward going on. But that initial lead could only be had through illegal electronic spying- for which there was no warrant.

Comey told the committee, ‘I have been authorized by the DoJ to affirm that the FBI is investigating Russia’s efforts to intervene in the 2016 election, including investigating links between Trump associates and Moscow and whether any coordination existed between the campaign and Russia.’

So far, there has been no evidence that Russia hacked into the DNC. The narrative has been shifted from Russian hacks to Russia cooperating with Trump. This shift has taken place since Trump accused Obama of wiretapping Trump Tower and the subsequent release of the Vault 7 document by WikiLeaks that proves intelligence agencies can and likely did do what Trump accused Obama of authorizing.

There is an overlap in the language being used by Trump’s opponents and the MSM. As stated, we’ve shifted from the term ‘Russian hacking’ to ‘Russian cooperation’ or ‘Russian ties.’ They are backing away from the Russian hacking angle because it draws attention to the fact that there is a mountain of evidence that Obama did, in fact, authorize electronic surveillance of Donald Trump and his presidential campaign staff.

To be clear, there is nothing illegal or unusual about politicians and their staff meeting with Russian officials. Members of Congress, Senators, high-ranking government officials, and Washington staffers meet with Russian officials frequently. There is nothing illegal, untoward, or conspiratorial about it.

Michael Flynn did meet with Russian officials before being caught up in a scandal that resulted in Trump asking him to resign. But that’s not why he was dismissed. He was dismissed because he misspoke to Vice President Pence, which led Pence to repeat some misinformed statements.

Donald Trump is 71 years old. He used the word ‘wiretap’ because it’s a term spies and the police used frequently in his day . In his mind, it means any kind of electronic surveillance. So the broad use of the word ‘wiretap’ approaches a kind of slang in modern terms. When Trump says he was wiretapped, he means that his communications via telephone, computers or any other device have been intercepted by technological means.

But the original definition of the term ‘wiretap’ means to access analog telephone conversations by ‘tapping’ into a telephone line, physically splicing the cable that carries the analog signal and siphoning off some of the signal for the purpose of spying. So when James Comey says there’s no evidence that Trump Tower was ‘wiretapped’ he is not lying- but he is being deceptive.

The fact is that the old-fashioned definition of wiretapping is not what anyone who is being honest is talking about. Essentially, Comey and the MSM are leaning on an implied accusation that Trump has the old definition of wiretapping in mind when he accuses Obama of spying on him via electronic means.

This is subversion by deception through misrepresentation. The idea is to surreptitiously portray Donald Trump as an addled brained old man who thinks men in fedoras and long coats are fooling around with his old rotary phones. The good news is this ruse is only working on members of the press, and people who only get their news via the main stream media.
