Ivanka Trump: “There’s a New Level of Viciousness”

There’s no denying that Donald Trump’s Daughter, Ivanka Trump is a formidable woman despite being raised in the lap of luxury.

She is the proprietor of a successful fashion line and a veteran in numerous high-level business and finance ventures. Perhaps her most distinguishing accomplishment is the fact that the 45th president trusts her to advise him and write policy (she’s drafting a child care credit for families as we speak). But however tough Ivanka Trump may be, she admits that she has never before seen, and never expected the level of viciousness that she is seeing directed at her father and the populist movement that supported his journey to the White House.

Ivanka appeared on Fox & Friends recently and told the hosts, “It is hard, and there’s a level of viciousness that I was not expecting.”

While President Trump’s job performance is under intense scrutiny and harsh criticism by his political opponents, that is nothing new. Even strident opposition from the establishment and the opposition party was well documented during Abraham Lincoln’s and Andrew Jackson’s campaigns and tenure in office- just to name two examples. The political turmoil surrounding these two men was seen at the time as unprecedented and vicious.

So the controversy surrounding Trump is not something that we would call a historical outlier. What would qualify as noteworthy, and extreme- if still not unprecedented- is the level of viciousness that Ivanka spoke of during her recent interview.

During the campaign, there were many extremely hostile and open attacks on Trump’s character, assaults on the dignity of his wife and children, lies, smears, misinformation- and even actual assassination attempts.

A man approached the podium with a gun during one of Trump’s early rallies. An armed man was apprehended attempting to reach Trump’s living quarters in Trump Tower. There have been numerous depictions of him in music videos, Broadway plays, TV, and movies dying violently at the hands of merciless mainstream personalities.

None of these productions have earned the condemnation of the Left- like the recent play in New York City depicting a prolonged and extremely brutal murder of Julius Ceasar, (conspicuously re-characterized by a Donald Trump impersonator). Indeed, the death scene in the famous Shakespeare play was drawn out longer than it has been in any other production- far longer and with more blood than the original play, a classic masterpiece of canonical literature.

Snoop Dog killed a Donald Trump impersonator in one of his music videos last year. And recently, comedian Kathy Griffin was disgraced after she participated in a photo shoot wherein she posed with a severed Trump head, covered in blood, in a manner reminiscent of the infamous ISIS beheading videos.

Ivanka went on to say, “But this wasn’t supposed to be easy. My father intends to be transformative, and we want to do big bold things. We’re looking to change the status quo.”

Her comments were criticized harshly on Twitter, most of them alluding to an incident in which Trump was accused of making fun of a handicapped person. A more careful review reveals that he was really making fun of a hypothetical version of himself. But the left is loathe to acknowledge that kind of nuance- especially when it’s so much easier to call their opponents ‘mean.’

And if Trump’s holding his hand in a way forbidden by second grade teachers is mean then what do we call a media that indulges in images and messages that encourage actual violence; the kind of violence that was enacted against a group of Republicans enjoying a sporting event at a park recently, as in the case of Representative Steve Scalise whose hip was shattered by a gunshot delivered by a crazed socialist Bernie Sanders supporter?

We think that kind of hostility rises to the level of ‘viciousness.’

But, of course, it’s even worse than that. In reality, the constant drum beat against Trump and his supporters is the driving rhythm of destructive riots, of people in MAGA hats being beaten on college campuses, and of the constant drone of unsubstantiated claims of Russian collusion in the mainstream media.

The viscousness Ivanka Trump is speaking of is a movement of lies and exaggeration, of pandering to low information voters in order to undermine a populist movement that- at its heart- only has one overriding goal; to restore the livelihoods of millions of Americans whose jobs were sent overseas by the policies of a political party that openly aims to tax, shame, and impoverish them into utter oblivion.
