If the recent iteration of gun control debates has shown us anything, it’s that liberals love to argue topics no matter how clueless they are. We’ll get into some of those details in a minute, but this is reflective of a bigger problem than firearm illiteracy. Liberals are genuinely clueless on most of their primary platform topics. They don’t understand the basics of economics, international politics or any of the other big ideas they support, and this is quite dangerous. Here’s a little proof to get you started.
NPR
There’s a good chance you didn’t see this story over the past week. During Easter weekend, liberals favorite radio station, NPR, posted a story that claimed Easter is “the day celebrating the idea that Jesus did not die and go to hell or purgatory or anywhere at all, but rather arose into heaven.” Even most non-believers still understand enough of the basics of Christianity to see why this claim is several shades of stupid. It is the dominant religion in our country, after all.
NPR was quickly chastised by countless Americans who were all too happy to point out the mistake and they were forced to issue a retraction. Still, how do you excuse this mistake? Even if you’ve never heard a Bible story in your life, you could still read the basics on Wikipedia. And, this is the radio station that liberals fight to keep funded by tax dollars. Inexcusable.
Guns
The Easter snafu is probably the least egregious example of liberal ignorance out there. The most obvious is in guns. We’ve all had to correct countless claims of automatic gun abuse, assault rifle hysteria and the dangers of silencers.
You might think that the jumbled jargon is just mainstream media trying to obfuscate rational arguments, but we have to wonder. Their inability to acknowledge the difference between automatic and semi-automatic weapons prevents them from forming what might be their most compelling argument for gun control.
After all, automatic weapons have been largely banned since 1934, and to date there have only been three instances of fully automatic weapons used for murder. That would sound like a great argument for the effectiveness for gun control, but since liberals are either too stubborn or ignorant to even understand that case, you never hear about it.
Of course, logical people understand that it isn’t really a good argument for a number of reasons. The availability of non-automatic firepower has prevented the need for a machine gun black market in America. That wouldn’t be the case for a total gun ban. That’s all beside the fact that it’s a gross violation of basic rights. The point is that liberal ignorance is extreme and obvious, and it gets in their own way.
Iraq War
Liberals are still pushing the notion that the Iraq War was illegal and a war crime. They also persist on the idea that no banned weapons were found after the invasion. Is it selective memory?
Here’s a recap for liberals who don’t know the facts. Bush had full Congressional approval for the invasion. The United States lead a multinational coalition in the invasion. We didn’t act alone. Besides that, the majority of votes on the UN council were in favor of military intervention. It was the holdout by France that prevented the UN from compelling a much larger coalition into action.
As for banned weapons, illegal scuds were fired at our troops on the first day. More to the point, we knew they had dangerous weapons because NATO nations supplied them to Iraq in the 80s. An informed liberal would be angry with the involved administrations for keeping that a secret.
Instead, they shoot themselves in the foot by refusing to acknowledge the weapons caches that we recovered after the invasion. It’s amazing how the left would rather stick to their lies and narratives than adapt an argument with damaging facts. But, that’s probably the prerequisite to being a lefty. You have to not care about the truth.
Economics
Everything we’ve discussed so far is a pittance compared to liberal economics. There’s no nice way to put it. These idiots still believe in socialism. The hundreds of millions of deaths it caused are of no consequence to them. The billions — stop and emphasize how big that number is (billions!) — of lives brought out of poverty by capitalism are meaningless.
There is no single issue with more overwhelming data than socialism versus capitalism. One works. The other spirals nation after nation to widespread, deadly levels of poverty. There have been no exceptions in human history, and close to half the world experimented through the 20th century. We’ll recap the biggest points for emphasis.
No country in Scandinavia is socialist. They are all capitalist economies, and it is the success of that capitalism that funds their social experiments. Germany is also not remotely socialist. High taxes and big government spending are not the same thing as a social ownership of everything. Never, ever let a liberal get away with saying otherwise. The “victories” of socialism that they want to claim are always just examples of governments spending money produced through pure capitalism.
Why it Matters
It would be easy to dismiss liberals as woefully ignorant and just move on. Unfortunately, there are a lot of liberals, and they regularly vote, so that won’t work. But, the issue is greater than just fighting political battles. The mentality that allows liberals to jump around painfully obvious facts ad nauseam is paired with their tendency to claim a moral high ground.
This is exactly the behavior that was predicted by Orwell and a number of other great minds in the first half of the 20th century.
The same mental gymnastics that allows you to believe in communism after overwhelming global data can allow you to call Christianity evil. They allow you to justify abusing a prepubescent child with hormonal treatments and genital mutilation. If you think this isn’t enough to endanger a nation, then you have an unparalleled faith in our systems.
It is of paramount importance to fight the willful ignorance of leftism at every turn. You can’t do it in hopes of converting the fanatics, but all of us are under educated in some areas. Provide the truth at every turn, and those stuck in the middle will still have a chance to find right in the midst of all of this absurdity.
