A New Low: Hillary Clinton Slammed for Her Defense of Bill’s Affair with Monica Lewinsky

The past few days haven’t been kind to former First Lady Hillary Clinton. On October 16, 2018, the 2016 failed Presidential candidate’s van wrecked inside of a parking lot garage before her scheduled fundraiser for embattled Senator Bob Menendez, Democrat – New Jersey.

Just two days prior, her interview with correspondent Tony Dokoupil on CBS’ “Sunday Morning” also crashed and burned. During the interview, the former Secretary of State offered a paltry, inadequate defense for husband Bill Clinton’s infamous affair with Monica Lewinsky in the Oval Office.

Since the embarrassing sit-down, Hillary has been taking heat from those on both the right and the left. If President Trump’s inauguration didn’t end Clinton’s aspirations of one day residing at the White House again, the fallout from her latest blunders might secure the nail in her political coffin.

So, what exactly did she say? The former First Lady maintained that she disagrees with people who say, due to the #MeToo movement, her husband should have resigned from office after his affair with intern Monica Lewinsky. During the interview, Dokoupil asked her, “In retrospect, do you think Bill should’ve resigned in the wake of the Monica Lewinsky scandal?” Clinton replied with a resounding “Absolutely not.”

Dokoupil pressed, “It wasn’t an abuse of power?” Clinton remarked, “No. No.” The CBS correspondent pressed her by saying, “There are people who look at the incidents of the 90s and they say, ‘A president of the United States cannot have a consensual relationship with an intern; the power imbalance is too great.’”

In response, Clinton said, “… who was an adult.” In a feeble attempt to shift blame away from her and her husband, the former Secretary of State continued, “But let me ask you this: Where’s the investigation of the current incumbent [president], against whom numerous allegations have been made, and which he dismisses, denies, and ridicules? So, there was an investigation [of President Clinton], and it, as I believe, came out in the right place.”

After Clinton’s miserable performance on CBS’ “Sunday Morning,” another 2016 Presidential candidate was swift to criticize her according to the Washington Examiner. Commenting on Clinton’s denial of Bill’s abuse of power, Carly Fiorina, former Hewlett-Packard CEO, stated the former First Lady “should’ve known better.”

On October 16, 2018, Fiorina tweeted, “Really, @HillaryClinton? Do you really think your husband (then-President of the United States) and Monica Lewinsky (a then-22-year-old intern) were peers? Sexual misconduct is about power: specifically the enormous imbalance of power between perpetrator and victim.”

In a separate tweet, the former CEO of Hewlett-Packard said, “That imbalance changes everything – even in so-called consensual relationships. Sexual misconduct is always an abuse of power – whether in business, politics, athletics or religion. Your statement is a petty, political denial that helps no one. You should’ve known better.”

In atypical fashion, the ladies of “The View” bashed Clinton for her defense of her husband. Notorious liberal Joy Behar took the opportunity to sound off on the former First Lady and Republicans simultaneously. She said, “What [Hillary] just did is exactly what Republicans do — they changed the subject. And that’s why we never get anywhere in the discourse.” When later commenting about Bill Clinton, Behar remarked, “He’s guilty.”

Co-host Abby Huntsman pointed out the former Democratic Senator from New York’s obvious hypocrisy. Huntsman said, “This highlights to me I think why some people struggled to vote for [Hillary], because you can’t have it both ways in her position. You can’t put yourself on a pedestal and be a leader for the feminist movement, and at the same time refuse to acknowledge the reality that you’ve lived with for all these years and stand by your husband.”

She went on to add, “I don’t think she can have it both ways, and she continues to try and do this.” Surprisingly, according to TheBlaze, all of “The View” co-hosts admitted the 42nd President’s fling with Lewinsky was inappropriate even though the former First Lady insisted it wasn’t an abuse of power.

Newsweek reported that Comedy Central’s Trevor Noah also rebuked the former Secretary of State for her interview on CBS’ “Sunday Morning.” On a recent edition of “The Daily Show,” Noah stated, “Oh I’m sorry, man. Look, here’s the thing. That’s not cool. Maybe it was different in the nineties, but today I think we’re all understanding that there’s a massive power imbalance between an intern and the president of the United States.”

He also chided, “And what’s also not cool is Hillary trying to deflect and make this about Trump. You’re not in a position to be throwing stones at someone, Hillary.”

Finally some sense from the mainstream media.
