Beto O’Rourke has hit the campaign running. He’s determined to be the next president, and he’s showing that he’ll do and say whatever it takes to win. At a recent rally, he made a speech condemning the worst traits of President Trump. As you might suspect, all of his criticisms were based on total lies. There were three in particular, all crammed into the same sentence, that need to be addressed. Let’s look at Beto for the liar he is.
Trump Hates Immigrants
President Trump hates immigrants is a common narrative spread by the mainstream media and Democrats, and Beto is showing no creativity in retelling it. The difference between his claim and most others is that he made the mistake of getting specific. In so doing, he gave honest people the means to debunk his claim.
According to Beto, Trump called immigrants an “infestation” and referred to them as animals. This is a thoroughly debunked distortion of the truth. There’s video of this quote, and when you watch the whole thing — as opposed to the deceptively edited, mainstream media version — you see that President Trump was not referring to immigrants in general. He was responding to a question about MS-13. Keep in mind that this is a gang that operates under the motto of “kill, rape, control.” Harsh language seems appropriate.
Even without this specific misquote, the notion that our President hates immigrants is overwhelmingly ignorant. For starters, he’s the son of a first-generation immigrant. There’s no evidence he hated his mother. In fact, its well-known he housed and took care of his mother and father in their later years. If that’s not enough, he’s currently married to an immigrant.
Beto is just playing the same game that every liar on the left likes to play. He’s completely abandoned the truth because he doesn’t like that Donald Trump is willing to be mean where it counts. Fighting against illegal immigration is not immoral, and it doesn’t make one xenophobic. It just means that we actually have a President who upholds the law. How terrible.
Trump Hates Muslims
This isn’t very different from Beto’s first lie. This is another old, regularly debunked trope. Beto is suggesting that the President hates Muslims because of his travel ban. So, let’s go through this dance again.
First, the so-called Muslim ban isn’t a Muslim ban at all. It’s a travel ban that targets specific countries where the majority of terrorists have come from. The left says it’s a Muslim ban because the targeted countries are majority Muslim, but there are a few problems with this logic.
There are seven countries on the list, and only five are majority Muslim. No one is saying President Trump hates Catholics even though Venezuela is on the list. That shows logical inconsistency. On top of that, there are roughly 50 majority-Muslim countries in the world. Only five have a travel ban. Over 90 percent of Muslims in the world have free access to travel to our country.
The second problem with using the travel ban to attack President Trump is that he didn’t write it. Former President Obama came up with the list and left office before he could make it official. It’s the least Trump-ian of any policy that has come from the current administration. He was just following through on leftover policy from his predecessor.
Lastly, the travel ban has been upheld in courts. They checked to see if it was unjustly discriminatory. It isn’t. Anyone who still pushes this lie is suggesting that every court in America hates Muslims too. Well, Beto might be trying to say that.
Trump Put Kids in Cages
This is the biggest lie of the bunch. Before we destroy it, we’ll acknowledge that under President Trump, immigrant children have been separated from their families. That’s the closest thing to a tinge of truth in Beto’s statement. Here’s the real breakdown.
The separation of families at the border is a law that was written by Democrats, signed into law by President Clinton and then upheld by Democratic judges in the 9th Circuit. It isn’t President Trump’s policy at all, and anyone who paid any attention would know that this practice happened under Obama’s 8 year reign.
The change that President Trump introduced was to get rid of the actual cages. Maybe you’ve seen a picture circulating of children in chain-link cages? That was under Obama’s Administration. It was Donald Trump who ended that practice. Beto isn’t stretching the truth on this one. He’s telling as big a lie as there is.
Here’s the real takeaway from this. Beto isn’t exceptional among Democrats. He’s perfectly average. The left has leaned on these lies for years, and his embracement of them shows that he isn’t a strong leader and that he doesn’t think for himself. He’s basically the left’s version of a birther, and sticking to such obvious lies is the proof.
