Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s Divorce Drama Just Got Juicer

Things are not looking good for the squad. AOC has been remarkably quiet since her chief of staff came under investigation. Without her benefactor telling her what to think, she seems lost.

Speaking of lost, that’s what happened Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib when she went up against Israel. She made a fool of herself when she chose politics over visiting her own grandmother.

Meanwhile, things look worse for Ilhan Omar than the rest. She’s been caught up in some nightmarish scandals as of late , and they just took a turn for the worse.

The Scandal

There’s a good chance you’ve heard about Omar’s original marriage scandal by now. For those who haven’t, here’s a quick recap. Omar married a man in her faith tradition (or so she claims) and had kids with him. They were never legally married, but they claimed marriage tax benefits.

At some point, Omar left her baby daddy to marry a new man. A lot of people suspect the new man is her biological brother and they married in order to defraud U.S. immigration law.

While with the new husband who might be her brother, Omar had an affair with her baby daddy. She then left the husband and legally married the baby daddy.

Earlier this year, there were reports that Omar and baby daddy were separated. When he was questioned, he claimed that he couldn’t answer anything about their relationship. It’s all pretty hazy.

The New Lover

We now have a good idea as to why Omar and her baby daddy are no longer together. She has a new lover, and this one has a wife of his own.

Dr. Beth Mynett just filed for a divorce from her husband, Tim. According to her filings, her husband has admitted to having an extramarital affair with another woman. When he told Dr. Mynett about the affair, he went as far as saying he and the mistress were in love.

In those same divorce filings, we find that Tim Mynett’s mistress is none other than Rep. Ilhan Omar. As far back as April of this year (this timing will come back in a moment), the two began seeing each other. Dr. Mynett used the time since to build her divorce case, and that brings us up to date.

This is where things turn from scandalous to illegal. After all, politicians have been having affairs since the founding of the country. It’s immoral and disturbing, but it’s not illegal. The problem with Omar’s tryst is the nature of her relationship with Tim Mynett.

You see, he’s a partner in a consulting firm that has worked with both of Omar’s campaigns. That’s how the two met. Now, having an affair with a person who works for you isn’t illegal. It’s unethical, but the law doesn’t outright prohibit the relationship. The problem is that such a relationship almost always leads to corrupt actions.

This brings us back to April of 2019. You see, up until that point, Omar’s campaign had been providing Tim’s company with itemized payments under the heading earmarked for campaign consulting. That’s all normal.

As of April, those payments changed. They stopped being itemized and were categorized as generic travel expenses. They also totaled more than $200,000.

Apologists for Omar will say that this isn’t illegal. It’s ok to pay travel expenses for a consultant. That’s only half correct. While it is ok to pay such expenses, according to campaign finance law, all travel expenses have to be itemized. These aren’t. As such, they are already a violation.

That’s why the National Legal and Policy Center already filed a complaint with the FEC. These expenses are going to be investigated.

Now, let’s get into the deeper problem. If the FEC finds that the travel expenses were justified but improperly itemized, it’s no big deal. Omar might get a small fine, but it’s a slap on the wrist. If, however, the investigation finds what we all suspect, it will be devastating.

Using campaign contributions to fund an illicit affair is all kinds of wrong. Omar’s campaign would face severe fines and possible jail time. We could say her credibility would also be shot, but there’s no credibility to lose in this case.

This all boils down to a simple question. Will the FEC successfully investigate a sitting member of Congress or not? History is not on the side of justice. Representatives get away with a lot — especially if they’re Democrats.

Only time will tell, but until the FEC finishes, we will have to settle for knowing what we can’t prove. Ilhan Omar pilfered campaign funds to pay for an illicit affair with a married man. That should already be enough to vote her out of office come next year.
