Media Matters is an organization that portrays itself as a media watchdog, determined to keep members of the media in check and hold them accountable for what they say and do. This image that Media Matters puts forward, though, is merely a mirage. In reality, Media Matters is nothing more than a political hitman for the Democratic Party; designed to discredit, shame, and silence conservative voices in the media.
Media Matters has shown their true colors once again, this time by targeting wildly popular Fox News host Tucker Carlson.
Last weekend, Media Matters released a collection of quotes made by Tucker Carlson from 2006-2011. During this time period, Carlson would routinely call into a shock-jock show called Bubba The Love Sponge, and it was from these calls that Media Matters pulled a majority of the quotes they chose to air before the world.
Every quote Media Matters pulled from the decades old radio show was taken out of context. All of them were meant to put pressure on Carlson to apologize, and even to force advertisers to his show to leave thus getting him kicked off the air.
The question isn’t whether or not we should defend Tucker Carlson’s quotes—all of which were presented without context and cherry picked to embarrass and besmirch Carlson. The question is whether we are going to let a political smear factory that expressly exists to shut down the voice of anyone to the right of Hillary Clinton tell us when we should be outraged.
Carlson’s quotes, after all, took place years ago on a show known for edgy comedy. Every day, comedians on the left and right of the political spectrum alike make jokes and comments that push the boundaries of what’s acceptable just as much, if not more. Such is the nature of comedy.
The only difference is that these comedians aren’t popular conservative news hosts with a bright red target on their back – a target that Media Matters has taken aim at.
Media Matters may pretend to be a nonpartisan organization, but they are anything but. Media Matters was founded by a professional political smear artist named David Brock. When building the organization, Brock received assistance from Hillary Clinton as she advised him on what the organization should look like and how it should function.
From the very beginning, far-left mega-donor George Soros has poured money into the Media Matters organization. In 2010, Soros said, “Media Matters is one of the few groups that attempts to hold Fox News accountable for the false and misleading information they so often broadcast. I am supporting Media Matters in an effort to more widely publicize the challenge Fox News poses to civil and informed discourse in our democracy.”
When Barack Obama was in the White House, Media Matters would routinely call the White House to “discuss strategy.” Something that Democrats have accused Fox News and Sean Hannity of doing with the Trump administration.
Even if the actions of Media Matters were not enough to stand on their own – which they are – all of these connections with high-profile members of the left should be more than enough to raise doubts about Media Matter’s claim to be a fair and unbiased organization dedicated only to the preservation of honest journalism.
As you hear the mainstream media attacking Tucker Carlson with increasing frequency in the coming days and weeks, it is important to understand that Media Matters is the organization behind it all.
Such partisan hit-jobs do not make our country a better place. Dragging up old quotes made on a comedy show and twisting them out of context does not alleviate the problems that are plaguing our media. If anything, blatant attacks such as this only make the problems with our media even worse.
For his part, Tucker Carlson has sworn that he will not back down or apologize to the outrage mob of the left. On Monday he told his audience exactly that in the opening monologue of his nightly show. “We will never bow to the mob. No matter what. Not ever.”
It can’t be easy to face the kind of outrage and hatred that he has endured thanks to the tireless efforts of Media Matters, but we at American Liberty Report wish him the best of luck. We too know what its like to be the target of leftist journalists who only care about taking you down rather than getting all the facts. Carlson has proven he will not back down when the left turns their propaganda arm against him. While this attack on a famous conservative is concerning what it really shows is just how desperate the Democrats have become. They are clearly afraid they will lose in 2020 and have resorted to trying to silence some of President Trump’s supporters. In the past they have done the same thing to American Liberty Report, Sean Hannity at Fox News, and now they are coming for Tucker Carlson.
