DHS Chief Defends Border Wall after Obama Attacks it

A sovereign nation is comparable to a household. Within it, exist a people united by a common history, experience, and culture. Outside it are those who may wish to enter for reasons either honest or malevolent. Not all of those who wish to enter will seek to do it in a way that respects the life and property of the people within.

We lock our doors each night, not because we hate the people outside, but because we love the people inside. This is the rationale behind secure borders. Every nation is a home to the people within. We do not expect to be allowed to enter another person’s home without permission. We know, to do so is to risk the wrath of a protective parent, an armed spouse, and the full force of the law. This is not bigotry, it is good sense.

Donald Trump won his place in the White House on the promise to make America great again. This promise was made up of two main propositions; that American workers should have the chance to make an honest living, and that they should live within reasonably secured borders.

For decades, Democrats have worked diligently to dissolve our national borders. They have done it for a variety of reasons, but the primary motivation behind opening our borders is to bring in a population of people who are dependent on government handouts who will vote for more Democrats.

It is, at its core, not motivated by compassion. Rather it is about eroding the wealth of the people who tend to vote Republican by giving that wealth to people who predominantly vote democrat. To put it simply, it is a scam; a perversion of our democratic system based on theft and lies.

As Trump supporters, not all of us are in favor of the wall that he has proposed. Some believe that repealing NAFTA will make jobs in Mexico more available to Mexicans and diffuse the perceived need for them to come here illegally. Many, of course, do support the border wall. Either way, we want secure borders, with prosperity for people on both sides.

Former president Barack Obama recently criticized Donald Trump and Trump supporters with the usual leftist tactic of using shaming language to weaken his opponents. In response, DHS Chief and Homeland Security Secretary, John Kelly released a statement in defense of the border wall that was beyond brilliant and absolutely destroyed Obama.

Obama said, “In this new world that we live in, we can’t isolate ourselves. We can’t hide behind a wall. It’s not going to impede in any way the legal crossing of millions of people a week, Mexicans and all other nationalities, Americans going south and north. Normal commercial traffic will move. You can’t defend anything by hiding behind something.”

We’re not sure what new world he’s talking about. Could it be a world where his former secretary of state led insurgents to kill Muammar Gaddafi, whose Libyan government was the only thing stopping millions of African and Middle Eastern migrants from flooding into Europe?

Could it be a new world where 221,000 non-citizens inhabit our nation’s jails, a new world where 25% of drug offenders, 8% of white collar offenders, and 6% of firearms offenders are non-citizen Hispanics which make up just 5.1% of the nation’s adult population?

These may be realities of the new world, largely instantiated by liberal policies but they are certainly not something that we should just accept. Accusing parents who wish to protect their children from criminal immigrants of hiding is a typically callous move of a political movement that has no interest in the wellbeing of the middle class.

When John Kelly was asked about the need to secure the southern border from terrorists and criminals, he responded; “The reality is they’re attempting everything all the time. The very, very good news, is that we have tremendous professionals fighting the away game for us.”

Between June 1, 2011, and February 28, 2017, Texas law enforcement arrested and booked 1,162 illegal immigrants on homicide charges. When compared to the 4,065 total homicide bookings for Texas between the years 2011 and 2015. Illegal immigrants represent 3.5% of all arrests.

3.5% may sound insignificant, but it took less than that fraction of the population to commit over 1000 murders in six years- that’s 2 murders a day in just one state. This does not account for the massive amount of violent crime perpetrated by illegal immigrants all over the country.

But people like Barack Obama are not concerned about the American victims of these crimes. They only care about votes.
