Kanye’s Success: Trump Now Backs Criminal Justice Reform

The news cycles have been intense, and as the midterms approach, they will probably trend further in that direction. There’s a lot to cover, but one of the biggest stories has been completely uncovered. You might think that mainstream media has fully remarked on Kanye West’s visit to the White House, but they have completely distracted the country from everything that mattered in the exchange between Trump and the rap artist.

The “Token Negro”

No matter how hard you tried to avoid it, you have undoubtedly seen the mainstream media’s barrage of attacks against Kanye West. That a card-carrying member of the modern entertainment industry could have the audacity to sit in a room with President Trump and have a . . . a conversation! It’s completely unforgivable.

Their attacks have been merciless and abundant. Kanye has been called a “token negro” by CNN, an uncle Tom and every other insult the left could think to hurl his way. They’ve called for massive boycotts of his music.

They’ve even gone so far as to try and ostracize other members of their ilk for not completely breaking ties with Kanye. John Legend and Chrissy Teigen are darlings of the left, but even they are receiving flak for being in proximity to Kanye. Keep in mind that all Kanye did was meet with Trump and wear a MAGA hat. For leftists, this is a heinous crime.

Kanye’s Agenda

The infinite bluster has distracted the left from seeing what has actually happened. Kanye met with President Trump for a reason. While he was there he praised President Trump’s success on turning around the economy and suggest that the 2nd Amendment doesn’t need to be abolished. Those are definitely cardinal sins if you’re a Democrat, but Kanye did more than just say nice things to President Trump. He also presented the President with information regarding a personal agenda.

This agenda goes back months. You might remember that Kanye’s wife, Kim Kardashian, lobbied the President to commute the sentence of Alice Marie Johnson. It was a controversial move, but President Trump ultimately conceded the point and signed the paperwork. Since, Kim and Kanye have both tried to push for more sweeping criminal justice reform, and their efforts are working.

Since his meeting with Kanye West, the President has come out in support of the First Step Act. It’s a bill that passed the House that could make substantial changes to mandatory sentencing. So far, it has been stalled at the Senate, but with Trump’s endorsement, that could change.

The Bigger Picture

The First Step Act is a conglomerate of other major criminal justice reforms that have swept through Texas and Georgia. The overarching concept is that non-violent sentences can be lighter, and the money saved by shortening certain sentences can be redirected to reintegration efforts. In both states, the measures have had a huge impact. Prison populations are down, and at the same time, crime of every type has fallen precipitously.

The First Step Act is not as aggressive as the provisions passed in either state, but it is a national step in that direction.

Let’s stop and note a few things. The Democrats have long championed themselves as the party that cares about the underdog, in this case prisoners. They’ve campaigned on promises of reform, but in more than a decade of having the means to push changes, nothing has happened. Meanwhile, Texas and Georgia are two of the deepest red states in the Union, and they’re innovating criminal justice in successful ways.

Now, the “token negro,” as CNN puts it, who has been slammed by the left is the one person on the planet who has managed to convince Trump to push prison reform up on his agenda. The left is full-on attacking the one man who is close to accomplishing one of their biggest promises over the last 15 years. It’s delicious irony, but the best part is that “racist” Trump just might be the President who finally breaks the cycle of black incarceration in this country.

The Democrats are truly the party with no purpose. They are now using all of their resources to complain about Republicans granting a long-held wish. Remember this when you go to the polls. One party is offering solutions. The other wants only to wine and destroy. That is the true meaning of your vote this year.
