The president has stepped forward in the midst of the controversy over FBI director James Comey reopening the investigation over the Clinton emails to say, that he [Comey] is not trying to influence the outcome of the election.
This is a move that deserves analysis because it is very politically shrewd- and we may say a lot of unpleasant things about President Obama, but he is not stupid.
It is, however, brazen for him to make this statement because Barack and Michelle Obama have lent not just their voices to support Hillary Clinton’s campaign for the presidency, but have also added their influence, money, logistical help, and other resources as well.
The Obama administration, it could easily be argued, has created an enormous conflict of interest situation by lending the Clinton campaign so much support.
It is the job of the office of the president to represent the interests of the American people, and by actively working to influence the outcome of a yet undecided election shows contempt for the will of the people- or at best- at least an ignorance or disregard for the proper professional and neutral stance that a sitting president should take during an election cycle.
So, Obama- who has shown in spades his support for Hillary- says Comey is not trying to affect the outcome of the election. It’s an interesting angle because at first, it looks as if he is supporting the reopening of the investigation.
But in fact, by allaying the fears of Hillary supporters and undecided voters who might turn against the would be First Woman president over the content of the Anthony Wiener emails, he is making it seem that the emails are nothing consequential. Obama is, in effect, playing cool on behalf of the Clinton campaign, which should be collapsing under the weight of this new pressure from the FBI.
It is perhaps most striking because, during the previous investigation, there were serious concerns about the very real illegality of anyone under investigation by the FBI actually running for public office- much less that of the White House.
During the original investigation, that was a major sticking point for Hillary. When Comey dropped that investigation, it was like a great weight lifted from the shoulders of the DNC.
Now, that weight is back on- and it’s returned after the spurious and petty accusations by easily debunked female accusers of Trump came forward and their claims quickly began to lose altitude. Just at the right time, the Anthony Weiner emails reemerge, and the reluctant James Comey is forced to reopen the investigation.
Never forget, Barack Obama has a vested interest in a Clinton victory this November. Without that victory, House Obama will in all likelihood have no prominent place in high-profile politics. There will be no shady backs-willing Obama charity foundation. The Clinton’s have already soiled that racket and any ship of that sort will be unsailable for at least until after the next election cycle.
Obama is not saying the emails might not mean Clinton may face charges. He knows the majority of the public really doesn’t care whether or not she faces justice.
What Obama is suggesting is that the new investigation will be of no real consequence to the election- which is all the average, nominally politically active American cares about. What he means is, that Hillary supporters and undecided voters should disregard the whole topic.
He wants you to think the new investigation is not important to the election- and it is an especially deceptive angle to take. It is an attempt to trivialize the investigation- when in point of fact- Hillary Clinton’s being under federal investigation makes her ineligible to run for public office.
Move along folks, nothing to see here.
So, if you take into consideration that, as the director of the FBI, James Comey almost certainly understands that opening an investigation of Hillary makes her ineligible to campaign for president, then you must admit that he is in fact- by definition absolutely trying to effect the outcome of the election.
By opening an investigation against Hillary Clinton, he has made it illegal for her to run for office. It could not be clearer. What’s more, the supposed Constitutional Lawyer, Barack Obama and, after all, President of the United States, would also be equally expected to know this.
Therefore, the conclusion that Comey is trying to affect the election, and that Obama also knows that he is- means that Obama is being boldly and intentionally deceptive.
There is no other conclusion.
