The media narrative this week is that President Trump caved on the border. Nancy Pelosi has saved America from the tyranny, oppression and immorality of walls. Thanks to her, the government is fully operational, and Trump has been reduced to nothing but the shadow of a former President.
If that seems a bit ridiculous, it’s because mainstream media is closer to a circus ring than a group of objective journalists. The fact is that President Trump is still fully committed to border security, and anyone who rejected his budget request is against a secure border. He wasn’t asking for a coast-to-coast wall. He was requesting provisions for emergency action as outlined by Border Patrol. That money is desperately needed for the border crisis.
Speaking of the border crisis, some new information has come to light. The true shade of this crisis is not what you think. Even among conservatives, the danger has been grossly underestimated.
The New Border Report
Investigators looked to see what the exact cost of the recent migrant caravan carried to American taxpayers. Parts were inconclusive, but there is one finding in particular that you should know about. From October through December, Border Patrol spent more than 20,000 man hours driving asylum seekers to and from hospitals. In all, more than 2,000 asylum seekers required medical care from hospitals. That means that each migrant spent roughly 10 hours in transportation.
Let’s break this down a little more. Border Patrol facilities have medical care on hand. For instance, the now famous facilities at Hidalgo, NM, can treat 300 patients at once. If numbers are too high, then migrants will have to be transferred to local hospitals roughly 20 miles away.
Additionally, the extent of care that can be provided is limited. For both reasons, each of the 2,000 plus sick migrants made multiple trips to a hospital. The transportation and care were all footed by American taxpayers.
The Great Risk
It might be frustrating to see tax dollars spent like this, but in this case, it’s probably for the best. The real issue here is that this migrant caravan was carrying dangerous, highly-contagious diseases. Some of those diseases include scabies and flesh-eating bacteria. The fact that Border Patrol facilities were insufficiently equipped to treat the illnesses should tell you what you need to know.
These hospital trips weren’t a courtesy. They were a necessity. Without treatment, this mass group of asylum seekers would represent a pandemic threat to our population. That’s not hyperbole. The conditions prevalent in the caravan were ripe for spreading deadly diseases. Thankfully, U.S. Border Patrol was able to handle it. Barely.
True Humanitarianism
This brings us back to the politics of the issue. The left told us that there was no border crisis. According to them, the fact that the migrants weren’t travelling in tanks and supported by airstrikes means that there was no threat. You now have raw numbers that prove otherwise. The migrants may not have intended ill, but diseases don’t care about your intent. They’ll destroy a population all the same.
The other big lie from the left is that we need to do away with border security in order to be better humanitarians. They want to defund ICE and diminish Border Patrol. It’s now clear to say that without these agencies, hundreds of refugees would have died.
More importantly, this state of mass disease was largely preventable. If the asylum seekers had followed proper refugee protocol, they wouldn’t have been exposed to the elements and crowded together for the multiple months it took to cross Mexico. They could have received humanitarian aid immediately, and a lot of suffering would have been prevented. We will never know how many of these poor souls perished on the journey because the liberals tried to help them skirt refugee protocol.
Lastly, the Democrats in the House recently held the entire country hostage to deny Trump’s request for $5 billion in increase border security. They claim that conservatives are the bad guys, but roughly $1 billion of that budget request was specifically earmarked to increase facilities and personnel who process asylum seekers.
Part of Trump’s request was to better equip our ability to safely process and provide aid to these people. Considering that the majority of them were carrying hospital-worthy infections, it seems that Trump’s request was quite reasonable. The Democrats would rather let these people die (and infect Americans in the process) than admit that Trump isn’t the devil.
The Lies
Let’s be honest. This is the first you’ve heard about the disease crisis at the border, isn’t it? Mainstream media has had access to this information. They have squashed it with all of their might. They put a lot of airtime into trying to convince the American people that there was no crisis at the border. This information quantitatively proves them wrong.
More importantly, it shows the full justification for Trump’s budget request. They can rail against walls all they want. The package they denied could have better helped more than 2,000 migrants that suffered inside of our borders.
The next time a lefty tells you that they come from a place of compassion, let them know these statistics. Show them who actually provided aid and care to suffering people. Inform them of how a stronger border also helps the people who try to cross. These lies have done enough harm to America. They’re also hurting the refugees who some Democrats genuinely want to help. Only the truth can save us from the left. Do your part to spread it.
