Roger Stone Associate Held in Contempt for Refusing to Testify in Mueller Probe

Andrew Miller, the former aide to Roger Stone, has been held in contempt by a federal judge for refusing to appear before a grand jury in Robert Mueller’s never ending Russian witch hunt. The Washington Post reported that District Chief Judge Beryl Howell ruled on Friday to hold Miller in contempt following a sealed hearing on the matter.

Following the hearing, Miller’s lawyer Paul Kamenar announced that his client was being charged with contempt saying “[…] we asked him to be [held in contempt] in order for us to appeal the judge’s decision to the court of appeals.”

The subpoena is seeking information about Miller’s knowledge of one time Trump campaign associate Roger Stone’s behavior during the 2016 election but it also seeks information regarding Stone’s anonymous sources DCLeaks and Guccifer 2.0. Mueller’s team believes that both sources were operated by Russian spies working to disseminate the electronically stolen Democratic National Committee documents.

Miller asked for immunity concerning financial transactions with a number of political action committees with which he assisted Stone.

At the hearing in June, Miller’s attorney, Alicia Dearn said, that Miller is “not guilty of any wrongdoing, I don’t want my client to step into something that might be happening. There may be responsive documents, but it’s not that he is still working for Mr. Stone.”

But prosecutors insisted that Miller reveal the information he and his lawyer wish to protect. The Mueller team said that it didn’t make sense for Miller’s legal team to claim that he participated in nothing illegal and knows of no crimes having been committed and still make a 5th Amendment plea.

When a witness is ordered by subpoena to testify before a grand jury and refuses to cooperate, that person may be charged with contempt of court. Judges do not always choose to hold persons in contempt in these instances but can do so on their own discretion. In certain cases, a contempt charge can result in an indefinite jail sentence which will only end when the person eventually gives in and willingly testifies.

Miller’s team is crying foul in the way their part in the Mueller investigation is being handled. They believe hearings resulting from the contempt charge will allow Miller the chance to be vindicated, and reveal wrongdoing by the prosecutors.

Roger Stone has been one of many Trump associates who has been under investigation concerning the Russian collusion witch hunt. He became involved in the case following a series of tweets and public statements that he made during the 2016 presidential campaign. In these tweets and statements, Stone appeared to have had knowledge of the electronically hacked emails which were pilfered from the DNC and published by WikiLeaks.

The Washington Post article included the following comments on the subject; “Miller worked for Roger Stone during the presidential campaign of 2016, setting up media interviews and similar duties. He is one of several of Stone’s associates who have been ordered to testify. Other witnesses who have been subpoenaed include, John Kakanis his driver and social media consultant, Jason Sullivan. Kristin Davis, the infamous ‘Manhattan Madam’, has also been ordered to testify before the grand jury.”

Presently, Roger Stone is accusing the Mueller investigation team of harassing his friends and partners.

Stone has been in politics all of his life and has been a major force behind the presidential campaigns of Richard M. Nixon and a number of other Republican presidents. He has been called every name in the book by Democrats. He was the subject of the documentary “Get Me Roger Stone,” which highlighted his unique career as a feared and loathed, but respected lifelong political operative.

The film painted Stone as a cynic with a vulgar mind. But his job, primarily, is to perform opposition research on Democrats. He is also a writer, runs a radio program on his website, Stonecoldtruth.com and makes regular appearances on Info Wars.
