Most of us understand by now that there are two versions of Donald Trump. There’s the “Candidate Trump” that we love for his quick wit, his rhetorical swordplay that cuts his enemies to the bone and his ability to name the things that are supposed to be unnamable according to the elites (“What good are these NATO freeloaders anyway?”).
And then there’s “President Trump,” the version that understands the gravity and importance of the job, the pomp and circumstance, the ceremony and heritage of being American, and the need for someone in the room to act like an adult. When the 2019 State of the Union Address finally happened, we got to see a little bit of both versions of Donald Trump.
First observation: First Lady Melania was stunning and earned the biggest round of applause before the speech had barely begun. All of the Democrat women were dressed in white for their social justice pablum, so Melania showed up dressed all in black. She was dazzling, and her outfit was a funny jab at the Dems.
Favorite Line: “We will never be a socialist country! We were born free and we shall stay free!”
Several remarkable things happened during the speech. The most electric moment was the section where he hammered the Democrats for their culpability in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Americans at the hands of illegal aliens. President Trump acknowledged three generations of Americans from Nevada – who had lost the fourth generation of their family at the hands of an illegal alien killer.
Without actually saying it, Mr. Trump said to the Democrats, “Look at them. Look at them, you monsters!” Everyone in the gallery stood up to applaud the Angel Family. Even the Democrats were forced to stand and clap for them.
The portion of the speech on illegal immigration was even better than the president’s recent national address on the same subject. President Trump used the address to hammer home the painful reality of our wide-open southern border. Caravans are being bused straight to the unsecured section of the border by the Mexican government. They’re coming in unchecked. They’re killing us, taking our jobs, overcrowding our schools and hospitals and destroying our nation from within. Bravo, Mr. President!
Another thing that we noticed during the address, which a lot of pundits have missed, is that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi remains firmly in control of the Democrat clown show. When President Trump was calling out the Democrats for their demonic support for murdering newborn infants in the delivery room, they started to come unglued. The president called for a ban on all late-term abortions, when babies in the womb can feel pain, and the Democrats literally started to howl in protest. But it only lasted for a moment. Boss Pelosi held up a hand and waved them down… and suddenly the howls stopped.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez may have actually been standing on her chair by that point, ready to fling something at the podium, but one gesture from Pelosi made her sit think otherwise. CNN likes to blather that Ocasio-Cortez is the “true leader” and the “future” of the Democrat Party, but it was clear who the real boss is from that moment.
Republicans in Congress could learn a lot about message discipline if they’d just pay attention to things like that. Does Pelosi still support killing newborn babies in the delivery room? Of course she does. But she also understands how bad this issue makes the Democrats look, and she knew they will never win that fight in the court of public opinion. So, she told her mob to “Shut up” with a simple gesture and they complied.
The State of the Union address is in the Constitution, which states that the president can address Congress “from time to time” on matters of importance. The rebuttal to the State of the Union is some BS that the media invented because they can never stand to allow a Republican to talk directly to the American people.
To “rebut” the president this year, Democrats selected a bitter failed candidate who lost her election in 2018, but who refuses to accept the election results to this day. That sounds familiar for some reason!
Nothing could illustrate the sharp divide between real Americans and the Democrat Party than failed Georgia governor candidate Stacey Abrams’ address. Abrams began her “rebuttal” by wishing everyone a “happy lunar new year.” What? Oh, right, the pagan moon calendar used by Muslims, the communist Chinese and every dysfunctional country in Asia. Pardon us for being unimpressed.
President Trump made his address all about America, acknowledging problems we need to fix and honoring both everyday heroes – child cancer survivors and Angel Families – and extraordinary heroes, such as the D-Day veterans. Stacey Abrams mentioned herself more than 30 times in the first three minutes of her blathering “rebuttal.” At least she’s not as vain as Obama.
One last thing we’d like to note about how petty, small-minded and hateful the Democrats are. Ruth Bader Ginsburg has been on the Supreme Court for 26 years now. And she’s still never attended a State of the Union address by a Republican president.
