What was the last you heard of the border crisis? Trump wants a wall, but what about the people trying to cross into San Diego? There were a few reports that refugee applications were being taken, and that’s the last we heard.
Well, the problem doesn’t disappear just because mainstream media refuses to report on the story. These refugees are very much our problem, and they arrived as a Christmas present for the unsuspecting people of El Paso, Texas.
First, the Crisis
Here’s what the media isn’t tell you…On Christmas Eve, roughly 200 refugees were released from ICE “custody” in downtown El Paso. That rate of release continued for a little over a week. Before the new year, more than 1600 new refugees were in the city. These are all refugees that have been vetted by ICE, and they are now officially receiving asylum status in our country.
Here’s the problem. Asylum, unlike standard immigration, does not require a resident sponsor. Here’s the second problem. Most of these refugees are not political refugees. They are economic refugees. That means that at least 1600 people traveled thousands of miles north to be in a country and climate that is completely foreign to them, and they have no resources to fend for themselves. They are now, officially, El Paso’s problem. Volunteers have scrambled to get them warm clothes, food to eat and medication to deal with arriving at the absolute peak of flu season and in the midst of the harshest winter El Paso has seen in close to a decade. It’s a tough time all around.
Blaming ICE
When the refugees started arriving, the extremely liberal residents of El Paso had a lot to say. They were quite unhappy that these immigrants were suddenly their problem. More importantly, they were upset with ICE for releasing the refugees. At all. Can you hear the hypocrisy yet?
According to the left, it is inhumane for our country to deny entry to any of these people. It is further inhumane for ICE to vet people who want to enter our country (despite the fact that dozens of murderers, rapists and human traffickers were caught by ICE trying to sneak in amongst these refugees). It is definitely inhumane for ICE to detain anyone during the vetting process (though they’re given food, shelter, warmth and health care). Most of all, it is the most inhumane of all for ICE to release the immigrants. It’s all a complete contradiction.
Just Another Day in Liberal Paradise
The truth is that every single problem facing refugees in El Paso is the fault of liberals. Mexico agreed to stop the caravan at their southern border. That’s a place where these refugees still had the right clothing for the weather and basic immunity to the common illnesses circulating. Liberals swept into Mexico, defied the sovereign government and helped these people cross the country.
The thousand mile plus journey took its toll on people who already had very little. Despite that, they made it to Tijuana. There, ICE established a standard vetting process before granting entry into our country. While waiting, thousands of refugees completely trashed the city of Tijuana. It’s still in a state of emergency.
Once in ICE custody for vetting, the liberals complained that the treatment was unfair and that the refugees should be released immediately. That wish has been granted. Now, more than a thousand refugees are facing snowy conditions, a raging flu season and a complete lack of supplies in El Paso. Good job liberals. You failed at every point here.
This is the problem with liberals. They want, and they demand, but they never think. They never consider the consequences. To them, it’s unthinkable that encouraging thousands of people to walk thousands of miles might leave them in a weakened condition. It might even contribute to the death of small children. They certainly don’t care about the people in the caravan, or else they might have lobbied to keep them in facilities that provided food and shelter.
Instead, liberals only care about political points. Every refugee freezing on the streets of El Paso was put there by unthinking liberals, and now, it will be the organized and compassionate conservatives who swoop in and provide emergency aid to keep these poor people alive. Just another day in America, it seems.
