The Ocasio-Cortez-Led “Squad” Could Bring Down the House (Literally)

Nancy Pelosi and moderate Democrats are struggling for the soul of their party. A small group of first-term representatives have begun to drive the news cycles on cable and network news. The problem is the message, and the messengers are so far to the left that they make Nancy appear (almost) right-leaning.

The leading spokesperson is New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez. She is passionate, young, and attractive. Between her pronouncements of anti-capitalism, advocacy of open borders, and warning that the world will end in about 12 years unless we give up air travel, Cortez oozes charisma, self-confidence, and an annoyingly arrogant demeanor.

Guarding Cortez’s anti-Semitic flank is petite Rep. Ihan Omar, also a freshman congresswoman from Minnesota. Omar made the news a few months ago when her extreme anti-Israeli remarks sparked a controversy that culminated in a toothless proclamation by Congress that anti-Semitism is, uh, bad.

At the far left somewhere behind the gym grabbing a smoke is Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib. In a widely televised manic moment after her win, Tlaib yelled that “we’re going to go in there and we’re going to impeach the motherf***er.” She was, of course, referring to the President of the United States.

Tlaib subsequently said she was sorry “for the distraction” caused by her potty mouth. But she stood firm on the words and her enthusiasm. Said Tlaib, “But you know, I just want all the women out there to know: Be yourself. Don’t think that you can’t say those things or get this passionate or angry. It’s okay.”

Not all women agreed with her, including the leader of her own party. There also may be the normal parents of a few impressionable young girls who were a bit more than distracted.

But the adults in charge of the Democrat Party know that politics is first and foremost about power. If big-time Washington politics can be compared to a beast, that beast will not hesitate to eat its young to stay in power.

The three aforementioned youngsters want the Democrats to take a hard left turn, and those in charge also know that’s what President Trump wants them to do. The farther left they go, the more likely moderate Democrats and swing voters will reject socialism and open borders.

In fact, they may be halfway there. The open borders issue rose during the Democrat candidate debate–you know, the same debate where Julián Castro advocated abortion rights for transsexual women. Every Democrat candidate expressed support for free health-care for illegal aliens. They also advocated making unauthorized border crossings civil offenses rather than crimes.

So, the Democrats may have already taken the first not-quite-fatal step in losing the 2020 elections. How to stop the left-turn bleeding is the question.

They came up with one way: According to a recent Yahoo News report, an “anonymous Democratic group” leaked a poll that could be bad news for the Democrat left. The poll shows that “swing voters deeply dislike Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez” and her socialism side-kicks.

We’re talking about normal folks outside those ladies’ constituencies. You have to remember that in the lexicon that “politics is local,” they actually have supporters. However, it is these radicals’ effect on normal swing vote throughout the country that is alarming Democrat pollsters.

The aforementioned poll showed a dismal 22% approval rating for Ocasio-Cortez. Omar fared even more miserably. Her approval rating among “likely general-election voters” who knew about her was a miniscule 9%.

So, the fear is that, as Ocasio-Cortez and her “squad” get more and more attention, they will start defining races in more moderate districts through the country. It also appears that Democrats are beginning to realize President Trump’s cunning and crafty strategy. His attacks goad left-wing hotheads rather than their more respected leaders.

Some pundits have observed that this strategy only unites the Democrats. However, whatever the outcome, it’s really a winning deal for President Trump. As the Democrats close ranks around their left-wing socialists, they’ll have to find a way to convince normal Americans that they don’t want to abolish air travel, that the United States will remain a staunch ally of Israel, and that tossing F-bombs on national news is really not what they’re about.

In the final analysis, regardless of the polling methods used in the poll, you only have to be a little bit smarter than Rachel Maddow to know that Republicans and swing voters don’t care for progressives and their limousine liberal ideas. They said that in 2016, and we didn’t need a poll to figure it out.
