Trump’s Approval Rating Higher than Obama’s

The mainstream media has tried their best since Trump’s election to portray President Obama as a savior-figure that the entire country will miss while portraying President Trump as an unfit Russian puppet that the entire country stands against.

Given the media’s commitment to this narrative, they aren’t likely to be pleased with the results of a new poll showing that President Trump’s current approval rating is actually higher than Obama’s was at the same point in his Presidency.

The latest polling shows that 45% of Americans approve of Donald Trump’s performance while 51% disapprove. In June of 2010 during Obama’s first term as President, 41% of American approved of his performance and 57% disapproved.

These stats are even more astounding when you consider a couple of key factors. For one, President Obama was able to enjoy the media fawning over him throughout his Presidency (with the exception of Fox News). The President received very little negative press in the mainstream media and his accomplishments were always highlighted in a very positive manner.

Meanwhile, the exact opposite has been true for President Trump, who faces a mainstream media who refuses to fairly cover his accomplishments and attacks both his policies and his character at every chance they get. Nevertheless, polling shows that Americans apparently have not had their opinion of President Trump influenced by the media’s narrative in the way that many might have predicted.

The second thing that makes the fact that Trump’s approval rating is higher than Obama’s was even more impressive is the fact that polls tend to drastically underestimate President Trump’s support. Nowhere was this more clear than in the leadup to the 2016 general election where polls showed Hillary Clinton winning in a landslide and instead it was Donald Trump who pulled off the victory.

Given the polls’ proven inability to account for the silent yet powerful majority of Trump supporters, it’s at least somewhat likely that the President’s approval rating may actually be even higher than the polls suggest. If this is true, then President Trump is far outpacing President Obama’s approval rating during the same period of his Presidency.

So why is President Trump enjoying such a high approval rating? By and large, it has to do with the economy. President Trump has so far overseen one of the most successful American economic periods in modern times, with unemployment at record lows and the stock market continuing to boom. His pro-jobs, pro-business policies have unshackled everything that once held American business’s back, ushering in a new era of American economic dominance.

Initially, the media attempted to give President Obama credit for the current economy, saying that Trump simply inherited the fruits of Obama’s labors. However, this is a narrative that is quickly losing its appeal as the Obama era grows more and more distant and, according to the Washington Post, more and more Americans begin to credit Trump for the current state of the economy. Given that 62% of Americans think that the economy is good or excellent, it’s no surprise that Trump’s approval rating is climbing.

In addition to the economy, though, Trump has seen some victories on the foreign policy front as well. He withdrew the United States from the Iran nuclear deal, which was growing increasingly unpopular as Americans learned more about its dirty secrets, and he successfully forced North Korea’s Kim Jong-un to the negotiating table, achieving an agreement for denuclearization of the Korean peninsula – a feat that is certainly no small accomplishment.

If President Trump continues to perform at such a high level, one can expect more and more Americans to come on board and approve of the job the President is doing.

With Democrats desperate to see Trump out of office by 2020 if not before, the President’s soaring approval ratings have got to be ringing some serious alarm bells within the Democratic party. Given that the midterm elections are right around the corner, the news is all the more serious for Democrats as the performance of Congressional candidates in midterm elections are heavily tied to the approval rating of the President.

At the end of the day, though, Trump’s climbing approval rating marks a major loss for the media who has done everything that they can to sway opinion of him to no avail and yet another win for President Trump.
