USA Today Calls for the United States to Abolish the Position of President

From the moment Donald Trump was sworn in, those on the left have been calling for his impeachment. The fact that there is no evidence that he is guilty of any crime matters not – they simply want him out of office whatever it takes.

One liberal writer journalist and former Capitol Hill staffer named Tina Dupuy, however, has taken the “whatever it takes” mantra one step further in her latest piece for USA Today. The headline of that article reads, “Donald Trump broke the presidency. It’s time to get rid of the job altogether”.

That’s right – Tina Dupuy, a person of supposed political acumen, believes that we should destroy our entire political system and start over just because she doesn’t like the President.

Dupuy (rightfully) argues that impeaching Donald Trump won’t work, saying that impeachment has never before removed an unfit President from office. However, her portrayal of what impeachment was designed for is way off base. Dupuy seems to think that impeachment should be a tool for removing Presidents that are unfit for office – a standard that varies wildly depending on whose definition of unfit that you use – but this is thankfully not at all what impeachment was designed for. Impeachment was designed to remove a President who has been found guilty of committing a crime. It does not allow for the removal of a President under any other grounds, no matter how much you happen to dislike them.

Frustrated by the shortcomings of impeachment when it comes to removing a duly elected President, Dupuy argues that it’s time to get rid of the Presidency altogether, saying, “My fear isn’t Trump; it’s that the next autocrat is most likely smarter and savvier than Trump. Every partisan from every niche of American politics should be alarmed. We have a branch of government that stinks so bad it’s wafted over the entire nation and its outer territories. The entire world sees it. We’re in trouble. The presidency is broken. Our little democratic experiment is in peril.”

Of course, that “little democratic experiment” has produced the greatest nation that the world has ever known, yet leftists such as Dupuy have long been loathe to admit what an incredible country that the United States really is.

In all fairness, buried beneath the nonsensical Trump-bashing and the absurd suggestion that we should get rid of the Presidency altogether are a few decent points about the power of the executive branch. A close look at history shows that the President has become increasingly powerful throughout our nation’s history, with the ability to make more and more unilateral decisions regarding both the country’s foreign and domestic policy.

Conservatives and libertarians have been arguing for some time now that more power should be returned to Congress, particularly when it comes to decisions about whether or not to attack a foreign power.

Dupuy, however, isn’t really concerned with the growing power of the executive branch. Had Hillary Clinton won in 2016, Dupuy would have no-doubt praised every single executive order and unilateral decision that she passed down. Dupuy’s one and only concern is Donald Trump – and she’s willing to do whatever it takes to stop him, even if that means blowing up the entire Constitution.

Dupuy ends her article by saying, “We can amend our Constitution to save the republic. Abolish the presidency! Power to the people! Power to the Congress! Make the co-equal branches of government more equal. Give us a council of boring bureaucrats who will do their job, serve the people and leave after their term ends. Because, as our forefathers believed, democracy is worth fighting for — even if you have to fight a mad king for it.”

Ending such a nonsensical piece of journalistic excrement by referencing the forefathers is irony at its finest given that every single founding father who worked so hard to establish a system of government that has excelled for well over two-hundred years would be horrified at the idea of dismantling the entire system just because one single party happens to dislike one single President.

The silver lining is, though, that Dupuy’s article is nothing more than yet another fantasy piece from the far left, written about events that will never happen. If anything, such articles only show American voters how detached from reality the left has become. With that in mind, we hope that Tina Dupuy and those like her continue to publish as many moronic op-eds as their hearts desire. The American voters are watching.
