Why are Democrats in Love With Elizabeth Warren?

Ever since their dreams of putting Hillary Clinton in the White House came crashing down to earth, liberals have been fantasizing of the next far-left Washington insider up to bat—Elizabeth Warren. So entrenched are their dreams of an Elizabeth Warren Presidency that the New York Times recently published a fan-fiction fantasy piece describing in past tense how Elizabeth Warren defeated Donald Trump in the 2020 election.

Why, though, does the 69 year old Massachusetts senator inspire such drooling from the left? During her time in public office, Warren has accomplished very little and is certainly a less accomplished politician than Hillary Clinton was in 2016 (regardless of whether Clinton’s accomplishments actually helped the country or not).

Nevertheless, Warren isn’t a political outsider in the mold of Donald Trump either and instead is a lifelong politician that represents the political establishment at its worst.

It certainly isn’t Warren’s charisma and charm that earns her the appeal she has among the left-wing media. While Warren may be slightly more charismatic and relatable than Hillary Clinton, she definitely lacks that “crazy yet good-hearted old uncle” charm that Bernie Sanders brings to the table.

Those who are hoping that running Elizabeth Warren against Donald Trump will limit Trump’s ability to attack and ridicule her flaws in the devastating manner he did against Clinton will likely be disappointed yet again. Elizabeth Warren has been a favorite target of Trump’s ridicule ever since he stepped into the political spotlight, particularly her outrageous claim that she is Native American.

Should Trump face off against Warren in the 2020 primary, these attacks will be ramped up to a whole new level. More importantly, given that Warren’s past remains largely unexamined, there’s no telling what else the Trump campaign and the right-wing media will dig up for Trump to use against her should she be his opponent.

As for Warren’s ability to go toe to toe with Trump when it comes to dirty politics, anyone who thinks the mild-mannered Elizabeth Warren will be capable of getting down in the mud with the attack dog that is President Trump is simply delusional.

Many on the left may see Elizabeth Warren as a more palatable version of Bernie Sanders – a politician that still has socialist leanings but isn’t so far-left as to scare away the majority of voters. If they are picturing Warren as the perfect merger between Sanders and Clinton, though, they should understand that Warren lost all of the appealing characteristics of these two politicians rather than adding them together.

She’s too far-left and unaccomplished to appeal to voters who appreciated Clinton’s slightly moderate approach and high-level experience, yet she isn’t enough of a far-left idealist nor charismatic enough to appeal to those who appreciated Bernie Sanders’ bleeding-heart character and his far-left fantasy-land policies. Elizabeth Warren may indeed bridge the gap between Clinton and Sanders, but she loses everything that voters liked about these two candidates in the process.

The New York Times piece described Elizabeth Warren as winning the Presidency by appealing to blue-collar voters, saying that she understood their problems better than President Trump. This idea, though, is laughable. Blue collar voters are not the ones pushing for socialism and government handouts.

Rather, these hard-working men and women want an abundance of jobs and a booming economy that allows them to earn their own way and prosper while doing so—both things that President Trump has delivered thus far and will likely continue to deliver by doing the exact opposite of what Elizabeth Warren would do if she were in the White House.

Yet in spite of all of this, Elizabeth Warren has somehow become the Democratic frontrunner for the 2020 election. Already, the platform that she is likely to run on is shaping up to be one almost identical to Hillary Clinton’s failed 2016 campaign, proving that Democrats learned absolutely nothing from their stinging defeat.

Democrats who hoped that President Trump would defeat himself in 2016 without them having to put forth a well-liked candidate who proposed a fresh set of ideas were sorely disappointed, and they are likely to be sorely disappointed yet again should they try the same strategy again in 2020.
