Not that there was ever any doubt about it, but Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has stabbed President Trump and his 74 million voters in the back. I know, right? Surprise!
The only thing actually surprising about it is that McConnell waited so long to do it. It’s been two weeks since the Great Capitol Kerfuffle of 2020. McConnell has now declared that the event was an “insurrection,” and he blames Donald Trump and other “powerful people” for it. It appears as if McConnell is signaling that he will vote to impeach citizen Donald Trump after he leaves office.
First off… an “insurrection?” Mitch, please.
The American middle class is patient, kind, generous, longsuffering, slow to anger and slow to resort to violence. We’ll put up with a lot of guff for a long time, even from tyrants. That’s not because we are weak or because we are unwilling to use violence. We’re just giving you plenty of opportunity to repent.

The Great Capitol Kerfuffle was definitely not an insurrection. It was the equivalent of a frat house panty raid. When a real insurrection happens, there won’t be anyone participating in it who is dressed in a Chewbacca bikini or a Captain America costume.
Incoming Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has now confirmed what we suspected all along. After the Senate votes to impeach citizen Trump, they will hold a second vote to bar him from ever holding public office again (if he is convicted in the first vote).
This would be another unprecedented breaking of norms, traditions and the rule of law just to “get Trump.” Impeachment is a specific constitutional tool to remove a sitting officeholder. If the Senate can impeach citizen Donald Trump and vote to bar him from holding office, they could do that to anyone.
Suppose that the 2024 election season is upon us, and someone like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has captured the GOP nomination. It looks like DeSantis is headed toward a landslide victory, with the unpopular incumbent Democrat Kamala Harris polling at approximately 0.01%. What’s to prevent a Democrat-controlled Senate from impeaching Ron DeSantis on some made-up charge, and then voting to bar him from holding office?
Nothing at all, if this banana republic standard is set by impeaching citizen Donald Trump after he leaves office.
The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court is supposed to preside over any impeachment trial that takes place in the Senate. But there are reports that John Roberts doesn’t want to run yet another fake impeachment against Donald Trump. If Roberts refuses to participate, what would the Senate do in that case? Will McConnell and Schumer hold a trial anyway, violating another black-letter precept from the Constitution?
Meanwhile, the other Senator from Kentucky (the good one) has come out firmly against holding a second fake impeachment trial. Rand Paul, who typically has a pretty good head on his shoulders, says that if Senate Republicans go along with impeachment, the GOP could lose 30 percent of its voters permanently. They’d walk away from the process in disgust, and never vote in another election. That seems about right.
For all the talk about healing and unity that the DC uniparty has been spewing, they sure do seem eager to make the lynching of Donald Trump and his supporters a key cornerstone of that project. If the elites think that Americans were angry when they pulled off the Great Capitol Kerfuffle, just wait and see what happens if McConnell and Schumer do carry out this impeachment.
How can you impeach someone who is not holding office? If that’s not enough, for the dims, whoopsie, the communists, to vote to bar Donald Trump from ever holding office again sounds like it’s time to Lock & Load! My understanding is that impeachment must originate with the elected body and the object of the impeachment is an elected office holder. First you impeach, essentially agree that there should be a “discussion” and vote within the elected body, with the possible result of the impeached person being removed from office. I’ve got a whole list of folks who need removing, but Donald J. Trump sure isn’t one of those names.

Impeachment is a a basic hearing to see if the allegations being brought up have enough merrit to move forward with a trial where the penalty is being removed from office. I loved your comment. They’re talking about 30% of Trump supporters walking away and never voting again. If this voting process isn’t fixed by: having every state clean up their voter rolls, (then have it checked and verified) do away with absentee votes and mail-in votes, take the computers (that have input from China and Italy and whatever other country) just totally get rid of any computer (today they can be simply reprogrammed with something as small as a SIM card) but having them fixed wasn’t enough, so they had poll workers running the same Biden votes through the machine several times. Which means that they need to have lots of people watching what the poll counters are doing. Make people show a picture ID that can be looked up and verified, that they are a legal US citizen, and an of age resident of that state. Then maybe the voting system will be safe and true. It should have been done back months and months before the election to assure that the voter rolls were cleaned up and the ones hired to process the votes had been screened and a background check completed. The same kind of background check that is needed to work for any government agency.

I posted a similar solution and even suggested doing a physical head count with reps from both sides overseeing a recount. Results signed by all parties and any proof of tampering all are held accountable with time in a federal pen. NO Martha Stewart club for the wealthy criminals. I am an average Republican. I am as sick as any of for what has happened. I believe McConnell stepped over the line when he sided with the Dems on impeachment. If their pay was minimum wage, how many of them would run for re-election? None. They would resign tomorrow., all of them. The people who voted them into office are their bosses. They work for us. Our biggest mistake we have made is giving them the authority to set their own wages, their own benefits, their own retirement, their own work schedules and no term limits. When you do that, you get the type of people who are not interested in but one thing, getting rich and doing nothing for it. $174,000 a year plus benefits is ridiculous. They are not worth a third of that. Pelosi getting $223,000 a year plus a private jet to take her back and forth to California every week, costing the taxpayers $5 million dollars a year. Is anyone in their right mind think she is worth that? She hasn’t done anything in the past 4 years that was worth a dime to the people who pay for all this. In fact, if the jet had flown her home years ago and never went back to get her, the taxpayers would have been a lot better off..

For starters…read up on the subject, envision a plan, pick up supporters, determine reasonable terms of office. But beware, include language that does not permit a revolving door…check states that currently have term limits. And finally, if possible, language that inflicts on them the same as laws they pass…medical insurance, social security. And while at it, once out of office, no “retirement” benefits.

Interesting situation now. It is clearly unconstitutional to impeach a president and try him after he leaves office. We know that the Democrats want it because they are scared, and want a conviction so that he cannot run again. Why is this matter of constitutionality not in Court right now? Is it tactical – Trump knows that he can win on impeachment in the Senate? And maybe the trial should proceed to identify the Republican traitors, like Murkowski?
